American Society of Safety Engineers, Kuwait Chapter (ASSE-KC) is planning to organize the fourth International Professional Development Conference (PDC) and Exhibition on Health, Safety, Environment, and Loss Prevention – during March – 2007.
We expect participation of over 600 nominated delegates for the Conference and over 50 companies / establishments for the HSE Exhibition.
ASSE-KC intends to take the help of Event management companies and other related service providers to help organize the conference and the exhibition. In its 73rd Executive Committee meeting held on 13th Aug'06 at Hilton Resort Mr.Garlapati Ashok yet again selected to represent the Kuwait chapter for the for the Global Task Force meetings that has been scheduled in October'06 at ASSE-HQ, Chicago, USA.
On behalf of Kuwait Chapter, Mr.Garlapati Ashok, Vice President receiving the President Award for Kuwait Chapter on 25.04.2006 from Mr.Tery Wilkinson, Director, COMRA at Chicago for achieving the highest membership increase among all ASSE Chapters during the year 2005.
In connection with the WED 2006 agenda, American Society of Safety Engineers, Kuwait Chapter Organised the World Environment Day 2006 on 05.06.05 at Hilton Resorts, Mangaf for public as well as its members.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY - 2006 agenda is to protect the fragile environment which is strained by the enormous pressure due to the frantic development of human beings at the cost of the very nature. This event infuses the awaking among the various organizations for immediate attention on some of the environmental issues and brings about the needed changes for restoring the all important nature to its glory. World Environment Day is a people's event with colorful activities such as street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essays and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, as well as recycling and clean-up campaigns.
This year the theme given by UNEP was "Deserts and Desertification" and the slogan is Don't Desert Drylands! The slogan emphasizes the importance of protecting drylands, which cover more than 40% of the planet’s surface. This ecosystem is home to one-third of the world’s people who are more vulnerable members of society. The main international celebrations of the World Environment Day 2006 conducted by UNEP was planned in Algeria.
In connection with the WED 2006 agenda, American Society of Safety Engineers, Kuwait Chapter Organised the World Environment Day 2006 on 05.06.05 at Hilton Resorts, Mangaf for public as well as its members.
Mr. Fadhel A. Al-Ali, Chairman welcomed the dignitaries & other members and delivered the Key Note address. He noted that it is the 6th consecutive year; the society is commemorating the World Environment Day (WED). He proudly added that ASSE-Kuwait Chapter is the only voluntary organization observing this day in the State of Kuwait. He announced that this year it has been planned to conducted Technical seminar as the topic was very relevant to the State of Kuwait.
Mr. G. Ashok, Secretary ASSE-Kuwait Chapter informed that ASSE is the oldest safety organization that was founded in 1911 & briefed about the activities of Kuwait Chapter and its growth over a period of last six years. He proudly mentioned that Kuwait is the country with highest ASSE membership across the globe besides the founder country, USA. He also announced the various facilities and other developmental programs proposed and accepted by ASSE Head quarters. Then he briefed on the background and objectives of World Environment Day and projected a film depicting the effects of desertification.
The Chief Guest for the event, Dr. Bader Al-Khalifa, the Chairman of M/s Delham General Trading & Contracting Company, which fully sponsored the event, spelt out in brief the various efforts taken by his group of companies in coming out with effective bio-remedies for the critical environmental pollution issues especially to the oil industry.
Mr. V. Ashok kumar, Head of Environment Forum, ASSE-KC, besides introducing the Chief Guest, also introduced the presenter Prof . Raafat Misak, Research Scientist, KISR & invited him to give a presentation
Prof. Raafat Misak, in his technical presentation, vividly and pictorially brought the various aspects of desertification, its definition, causes, effect on the eco-system. He also indicated effective methods that can be used to prevent the future desertification of dry lands and reclamation of the same quite effectively.
Then, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Head of Environment Forum briefed about significance of planting trees in prevent pollution and also desertification.
The felicitation party was then extended by awarding memento’s to the dignitaries. Mr. Fadhel A.Ali, Chairman, ASSE-KC handed over the memento’s to Dr.Bader Al-Khalifa Chairman M/s Delham General Trading & Contracting Company, and to Prof Raafat Misak, Research Scientist, KISR, for appreciating their support for marking this event a great success.
Dan Mangalam of the Outreach committee of ASSE-KC Chapter conducted the proceedings of the WED 2006.
The presentation ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. V.Ashok Kumar, Head of the Environment Forum and thanked the Presenters and members for attending in such large number for this WED 2006 celebrations. The event was concluded with a dinner sponsored by M/s M/s Delham General Trading & Contracting Company. In line with theme of WED 2006, the organisers specially support by Mr. Gopal distributed outdoor plants (CONOCORPUS) to all participants and requested them to plant either at homes, schools or offices to increase the greenery development in the Kuwait. It is a small beginning by every participant to make a big difference…

In continuation of our efforts to bring the latest developments / technologies in the field of Safety, Health, Environment and loss prevention, American Society of Safety Engineers, Kuwait Chapter organized its Technical meet of the month on "Stress & Stress Management at work place" on 28th February ’06 at Hilton Resort, Mangaf, for the benefits of the members, General Public & other HSE professionals around Kuwait. There were around 50 HSE professionals gathered in the hall that included 40 ASSE members. Mr. S. Jayakumar, Secretary, American Society Of Safety Engineers-Kuwait Chapter welcomed the gathering & introduced the presenter Dr. M W Daoud, General Manager, Globe Med.
The welcome address was then followed by the first presentation of the evening by Dr. M W Daoud, He welcomed the audience & gave a 30 minutes presentation on the topic which was in a SHE angle rather clinical. The presentation was followed by Q&A.
The second presentation was done by Mr. Gopal Balaji, Civil Engineer, Flour, delivered a small lecture on yoga & he explained how to decrease mental stress by doing yoga. He delighted the audience by performing some breath taking "Asanas".
The second session was followed by an award ceremony. Mr. G. Ashok, Vice president along with Nelson, Senior ASSE member awarded a memento to Dr. M W. Daoud for his presentation. Secondly a memento was handed over by Mr. Teryl Peter Periera & Mr. Joseph George (ASSE members) to Gopal Balaji for his scintillating presentation.
The award ceremony was followed an announcement on ASSE-Kuwait chapter Election-2006 which was given by Mr. Ujwal Ritwik, Election Committee Member.
The meet was concluded with a high tea.
ASSE-KC held a Technical meet on "Electronic Permit Processing System” on 29th Jan’06 at Hilton Hotel, Mangaf.
