Mrs. Ilise L. Feitshans JD and ScM, Coordinator for Encyclopaedia, 5th Edition ILO, Visit to Kuwait

The International Labor Organization (ILO) is the oldest specialized agency of the United Nations, founded in 1919. The ILO Encyclopedia reflects the best thinking and collective knowledge of experts who have written down information for the benefit of all people, available free of charge. No one else has done this job with the accuracy, history of objectivity and international mission that has been the hallmark of the ILO since its inception and since the first Encyclopedia in 1930 ILO’s goal is to provide the stakeholders and end users with appropriate information, across subjects, in a highly accessible format, to get the new century started right in the 5th Edition. The sole purpose of this mission is to provide, for the first time, a completely electronic, up-to-date, accurate and user-friendly information resource that is understandable by millions of people, anywhere in the world.

In this context, ASSE – Kuwait Chapter has taken a lead in Kuwait to facilitate meetings with Universities, Research Institutions, Oil Companies, Government bodies and other Professional societies to brief them on the ongoing 5th Edition ILO Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health and Safety, SAFEWORK. You have an opportunity to participate in the process of writing the encyclopaedia. As part of promoting this mission, Mrs. Ilise L. Feitshans JD and ScM is on a special trip to Kuwait during 11-18 January 2009. ASSE – Kuwait would request the interested HSE & Other professionals / bodies / Companies to come forward and participate in this project. We would like to meet you and describe “ How you could be a part of this noble mission “.

Conference Curtain Raiser Meet/Technical Meet/Half Yearly General Body Meeting

We cordially invite all of you to one more mega event "Conference Curtain Raiser Meet/Technical Meet/Special General Body Meeting" that we are conducting on 13th January, 2009 (Tuesday) at Radisson SAS.

Details of the activities planned for this day are as under:

1. Conference Curtain Raiser Meet

As you are aware that American Society of Safety Engineers - Kuwait Chapter is organizing the 5th International Health, Safety, Environment and Loss Prevention Professional Development Conference & Exhibition from 17-19 March, 2009 in Kuwait with the theme "Moving to Sky" In connection with this mega event; Conference Curtain Raiser Meet has been arranged on 13th Jan'2009 (Tuesday) at Radisson SAS.

2. Session Chair

Briefing by PDC - 2009 Technical Committee

3. Technical Talk from Representative of ILO, Switzerland:

We are happy to announce that there will be a Technical Talk on the same day on "5th Edition of Encyclopedia of OH&Safety" by Ms. Ilise L. Feitshans JD and ScM Coordinator, 5th Edition, Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety, SAFEWORK, ILO, Switzerland

4. Special General Body meeting:

During the 95th EC Meeting held on 18.11.2008, The Executive Committee of ASSE-Kuwait Chapter decided the following:

1. To conduct the Elections once in every two years instead of once in a year as per the existing practice.

As per the existing practice the new team is taking over the charge in July month, which is falling in the summer vacation period and is again followed by Ramadan. During this holiday season, society/chapter is not in a position to organise any program. By the time they start the activities after Ramadan EID Holidays i.e. around November, election notification for new team is to be issued as per the existing bye laws. As a result the net available time to any team is very less. In order to solve these kind of problems EC has proposed to conduct the Elections once in every two years.

2. To collect 5 KD per annum per member as Chapter dues.

As per the payment structure for the members of ASSE, an amount of 15$ is to be collected against chapter dues.(Refer the Membership Form Under Item no:7) However till date, ASSE-KC has been overlooking this aspect with a view to encourage the membership drive. On the other end nothing is being charged to any member as a fees for participation for Technical Meets, which becomes a costly business. Today we have more than 500 members.

Organising a Technical meet becomes a costly affair. Hence, keeping the present inflation rate ,cost of Hotel Booking/Expenditure involved in organising every technical meet and other over head charges in view, EC has proposed to charge 5 KD per annum per member as Chapter dues.

However both these issues are to be approved by the members in order to ratify the decisions taken by the EC. In order to ratify the same special voting of members will be conducted during this meet.

Agenda of the day:
