American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE)-Kuwait Chapter organized 6th International Health, Safety, Security Environment (HSSE) and Loss Prevention Professional Development Conference & Exhibition” during 29th Nov – 1st Dec 2011 which is a mega event in the State of Kuwait.

The prime objective of the conference was to promote Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental protection on workforce and common public across the globe by providing a forum for practitioners from Industries, Institutions, and Government Agencies to share the experiences, technological advancements, and innovative approaches and it was the best opportunity for the professionals to learn.
This mega event was held under the patronage of H.E Dr. Mohammed Mohsen Al- Busairi, Ex. Minister of Oil, State of Kuwait, and Minister for Parliament Affairs and Chairman of KPC Board of Directors, State of Kuwait.
The inauguration for this event was held on 29th November 2011 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Kuwait.
Mr. Fadhel Al-Ali, Chairman, Organizing Committee of the Conference welcomed the distinguished dignitaries and professionals from Kuwait and other nations, industries and organizations.
The Chief Guest Mr. Fahad Al-Ajmi, Chairman – Kuwait National Petroleum Company & Acting CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), State of Kuwait, inaugurated the conference and exhibition and addressed the professionals and highlighted the importance of the event.

Mr. Subba Rao Palagummi, President, ASSE – Kuwait Chapter addressed the gathering briefing on the expectations and efforts by the chapter to make this conference as interesting as possible. Ms. Terrie Norris, President, ASSE-USA appreciated Kuwait chapter for having organized such a wonderful event which will benefit HSE professional and community at large and mentioned that organizing such event will benefit not only the HSSE professionals and also brings pride to the nation. Mr. Ujwal Ritwik, President, PDC - Organizing Committee of the Conference has provided an overview of this conference and highlighted on the untiring efforts put in by dedicated members and support extended by various sponsors and organizations.

On this special occasion, ASSE-Kuwait Chapter has introduced the Chapter Safety Professional of Year (SPY) Award and Chapter Longevity Award this year on order to recognize individuals who have dedicated and contributed to the success of the Chapter. Mr. N. Vasudevan, Vice President of the chapter has briefed about SPY Award. Mr. Subba Rao, President of the chapter has explained about the Longevity Award.
Mr. Mohammad K.S. Mohiuddeen, Convener, PDC Organizing Committee, Past President and Advisory Committee Member of ASSE - Kuwait Chapter was honored with Chapter Safety Professional of Year Award (SPY Award) for his outstanding contributions to the chapter and to HSE profession. Presently Mr. Mohiuddeen, a Certified Safety Professional with 26 years of rich experience in Oil Industry is working as Safety Engineer with Corporate HSE Group of Kuwait Oil Company. In June 2011, Mr. Mohiuddeen was also honored with “American Society of Safety Engineers 2011 NAOSH Champion Award” by ASSE Headquarters, USA during the Professional Development Conference in Chicago, Illinois, USA
Mr. Fadhel Al- Ali, Chairman – PDC Organizing Committee and Chairman of ASSE – Kuwait Chapter was honored with Chapter Longevity Award for his outstanding contributions and continuous support to the chapter during the last one decade. He is also a Founding Member of ASSE Kuwait Chapter and Former SHE Manager (Safety, Health and Environment of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). Presently Mr. Fadhel Al Ali is working as Manager HSE & Support Services; Petroleum Coke Industries Company. Due to the exceptional involvement and support, ASSE Kuwait Chapter has been recognized in various forums nationally and internationally.
Inaugural Program was concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammad K S Mohiuddeen, Convener, PDC Organizing Committee and opening of Exhibition Booth by the chief guest Mr. Mr. Fahad Al-Ajmi, Chairman – Kuwait National Petroleum Company & Acting CEO of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), State of Kuwait.
The second day and third of the conference was covered with the technical papers, symposiums, special meet on “Women in Safety Engineering (WISE)”, training workshops and visit of exhibition. One the second day of the conference, an exclusive meet of “Women in Safety Engineering (WISE)” was organized by the chapter to support and encourage the women working in the field of HSE (Health, Safety and Environment). On this special meet, Dr Fatima Al-Abdali, Senior HSE Specialist KOC, was recognized and honored on her award of “12 Best Women in HSE, Science and Technology across the middle East & North Africa”. Dr. Fatema Al-Shatti; Acting Manager – Environment; Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) was honored by ASSE on her “Award of ASSE -One of the 100 Women in Safety Engineering”.
There were nearly 65 technical papers presented on Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) issues by delegates representing different parts of the world. Symposiums on the innovative and important HSSE topics on “Green Building Program in Kuwait and It’s Challenges, Security Role for Emergency Management and Disasters, HSE Regulations in Kuwait and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)” were also are part of the conference and there were number of Prestigious Panel of Speakers from Kuwait & Outside. Some of the prominent speakers who spoke on the occasion on various HSSE topics are: Ms. Asrar Mohammad, Environment Expert, EQUATE; Ms. Terri Norris, President, ASSE, USA.; Mr. David Moore, President & CEO of M/s Acu tech Consulting; Eng. Abdul Kareem Al-Zaid, Secretary General, National Committee for Building Codes, (NCOBC), Municipality of Kuwait, Kuwait; Dr. Ahmed Al-Shatti, Director, Occupational Health Department, Ministry of Health, Kuwait; Mr. Colonel Mohammed Ali Al- Faresi, Principle Consultant for Strategic Planning and Development from SDFC, Mr. Tom Andrews, Manager - Ansell Industries - Middle East; Dr. Abdul Latif Elmor, KPC, Kuwait; Mr. Waleed Khalid Al-Safour, Fire Captain Civil Engineer, Kuwait Fire Directorate, State of Kuwait; Dr. Ali M. Khuraibet, General Manager, Eco Environmental Consultants; Dr. Wm. Brent Nixon Ph.D, PE,QEP, Vice President, Science & Engineering, USA.
About 22 exhibitors from various private and government companies opened their exhibition booths to present and share their technologies, innovations, ideas, products and services in the field of Health, Safety, Security and Environment.

The three day conference was concluded with a closing ceremony held on 1st December 2011 where all the exhibitors, volunteers of the chapter were recognized. As per the feedback received, this International Conference has successfully added one more colorful feather in the history of Kuwait and added value to the industries and professionals in promoting Health, Security and Environmental protection.
