First Aid Training Program for ASSE Members

As part of our continued efforts to enable ASSE members in enhancing their Professional Development, ASSE - Kuwait Chapter YET AGAIN join hands with Shuaiba Industrial Medical Center (SIMC), Ministry of Health to conduct a morning session on “FIRST AID & EMERGENCY CARE IN THE INDUSTRIAL SETTING.

Following are the course details

  • Dates : 7th - 11th June 2009 ( Tentative)
  • Timings : 08:00 AM - 01:00 PM
  • Venue : Shuaiba Industrial Medical Center (SIMC)
  • Maximum Seats available: 15
  • Seats are filled on first come first served basis.
  • Course fee : KD 15

Aim: This course intends to impart basic life saving skills based on critical life support, with the concept of timely care and support.

The objectives of the course are to:

  • a) Equip participants with basic knowledge about vital systems and their function
  • b) Enable the trainees to understand the need for urgent action in times of emergencys
  • c) Provide them basic skills including CPR and basic first aid concepts

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able to:

  • Practice basic skills of first aid emergency care at their work place.
  • Save life and costs by application of their First Aid knowledge and skills
  • Make appropriate referrals

• Introduction to medical emergencies, role of urgent care services

• CPR for adult and child

• Mechanical Hazards at work place

• Chemical Hazards at the workplace

• Physical Hazards at the workplace.. & management

• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation

• Bleeding/wounds, Burns & Fractures

• Common Poisoning & environmental emergencies

• Toxic exposures at workplace

• Emergency Medical Response

  • Successful candidates will be awarded a certificate of completion from Ministry of Health.
  • Program will not be conducted if 15 participant register.

Course Objectives

The 3 day course will seek to achieve the following objectives:

  • Describe the basic principles behind successful incident investigations.
  • Identify the essential features of a management system designed to foster and support high quality incident investigations.
  • List detailed information for planning and conducting incident investigations including investigative tools, techniques, and methodologies for determining root causes.
  • Use the findings of an investigation to make effective recommendations that can reduce the likelihood of recurrence or mitigate the consequences of similar incidents (or even dissimilar incidents with common root causes).
  • Plan an effective system for documenting, communicating, and resolving investigation findings and recommendations including a method to track closure of incident recommendations.

Course Directors

Mr. Paul Butler, Senior Technical Manager of Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS)

The instructor will be Mr. Paul Butler, Senior Technical Manager of CCPS in the U.S.A. Mr. Butler has more than 35 years of experience in the process industries, spending 18 years as Director of Process Safety for Buckman Laboratories, a global specialty chemical company. Throughout his career, Mr. Butler has offered many training courses in Incident Investigation, Hazard Analysis, and Process Safety Management Systems.

Mr. Scott Berger, Directo of of Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS)

Mr. Scott Berger, CCPS Director, will support Mr. Butler with the review of the course material. Mr. Berger has more than 30 years of experience in the process industries, including 7 years as CCPS Director, 5 years as Director, EHS Strategic Management for Owens Corning.

Certificates & Course Fee

Certificates will be issued jointly by the American Society of Safety Engineers and Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS).

Fee per participant is 450 K.D (US$ 1600) for Three days (includes snacks, lunch, course manual CD).
